Perinatal Needs Assessment

This web page describes a comprehensive Perinatal Needs Assessment conducted by Georgetown University’s Center for Child and Human Development that examined how racism, racial disparities, and social determinants of health contribute to perinatal health inequities for Black mothers in Washington, DC’s wards 5, 7, and 8. The assessment produced multiple reports and research briefs released between 2020-2022, including a foundational literature review on reproductive health inequities, a comprehensive qualitative study titled “Racism Bleeds throughout this Entire Healthcare System,” and three targeted research briefs addressing racism’s impact at the systems/policy, practice/program, and individual/interpersonal levels, all aimed at developing a racial equity agenda for reproductive health in Washington, DC.
