Cultural and Linguistic Competence Organizational Self-Assessment for Fetal and Infant Mortality Review Programs

A laptop computer with a black screen sits open on a light wooden desk surface, accompanied by a white tablet, a black smartphone, a white coffee cup on a saucer, a small stack of yellow sticky notes, and a pair of eyeglasses. The items are arranged in a typical workspace setup, suggesting a modern office or home work environment.

This webinar, co-sponsored by the National Center for Cultural Competence and the National Fetal and Infant Mortality Review Resource Center, explores how cultural and linguistic competence principles apply specifically to Fetal and Infant Mortality Review (FIMR) programs. The presentation covers the concepts, benefits, and practical approaches to implementing cultural and linguistic competence self-assessment within FIMR teams, while introducing the specialized Cultural and Linguistic Competence Organizational Assessment Instrument (CLCOA-FIMR). The webinar recording is linked below.

The CLCOA-FIMR was developed through collaboration between the National Center for Cultural Competence and a national workgroup of state and local FIMR representatives. This self-assessment fills a critical gap by providing the first assessment tool specifically designed to address the unique cultural competence challenges faced by local FIMR programs, where existing general organizational assessment instruments were insufficient for their specialized needs. The self-assessment is linked below.
