Thrive Center 2024–2025 Annual Report: Innovation, Research & Community Impact

We’re proud to share the Thrive Center for Children, Families, and Communities 2024–2025 Annual Report—our first annual report highlighting a year of innovation, growth, and collaboration.

In 2024, the Thrive Center was formed by bringing together colleagues from the Georgetown University Center for Child and Human Development and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital’s Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry to create a unified team with expertise spanning research, practice, education, and advocacy.

Our mission is grounded in a commitment to generating rigorous research—and applying it to transform the systems that shape children’s lives, ensuring evidence-based practices reach the communities where they are needed most.

Key Highlights from 2024–2025

This year’s annual report shares progress across major Thrive Center focus areas:

Child, Adolescent, and Family Mental Health

We expanded work addressing youth and family mental health needs through a public health approach, including research, clinical and community services, technical assistance, and workforce development.

Disabilities and Inclusion

The Thrive Center continues a strong legacy of advancing self-determination and promoting equity among the diversity of people with disabilities through training, technical assistance, and research.

Infant & Early Childhood Development and Relational Health

We strengthened our efforts to bridge the gap between what research shows is effective and what families can access in communities—supported by national centers, certificate programs, services, and evaluation.

Cultural and Linguistic Competence and Equity

Our team advanced evidence-based approaches that decrease disparities and increase access to services across diverse cultural and linguistic communities.

Digital Health and Innovation

We accelerated and co-developed scalable digital health interventions aimed at improving access to care and addressing health disparities.

Workforce Development, Education, and Training

A major priority this year was strengthening the current and future workforce through diverse education and training opportunities offered in online, in-person, and hybrid formats.

Our training and education efforts include leadership programs, university education, and certificate programs in early intervention and infant/early childhood mental health.

Innovation Hub @ Thrive Center

This year also marked the launch of the Innovation Hub @ Thrive Center, a three-month fellowship program designed to help startups and nonprofits focused on child and family health scale their impact—powered by Thrive Center expertise and connections.

Thrive Dispatches Podcast

We’re also excited to introduce Thrive Dispatches, a new podcast hosted by Thrive Center Director Dr. Matthew Biel, featuring leaders in science, advocacy, and lived experience exploring what it truly means to thrive.
