Return on Investment in Systems of Care for Children With Behavioral Health Challenges

This resource from the Georgetown University National Technical Assistance Center for Children’s Mental Health examines the financial returns of investing in systems of care for children with behavioral health challenges. The document presents data from national studies and state/community analyses to demonstrate that the system of care approach—which emphasizes home- and community-based services, individualized care, family involvement, and cross-system collaboration—generates significant cost savings while improving outcomes for children and youth with serious mental health conditions. There is an accompanying issue brief that synthesizes the evidence from multi-site studies, state analyses, and community evaluations demonstrating substantial cost savings while achieving positive clinical outcomes.
